Samsung unveils its new AI-powered TVs that have 16 TIMES the number of pixels as standard HD

Daily Mail - Science & tech

Samsung has taken the wraps off a range of new televisions powered by AI that promise to provide pictures with greater clarity than ever. The whopping 65" to 85" screens in the new QLED 900R range are capable of displaying images in 8K resolution – the next frontier in ultra high definition viewing. This newest resolution has four times as many pixels vertically and horizontally as current top-end 4K Ultra HD screens, and 16 times more than standard 1080p HD. Samsung is using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to'upgrade' the quality of any video content viewed on the screen, including older television shows, and movies. The AI analyses the low-resolution content – checking the pixel location, colour, shape of 33 million pixels inside the frame – to detect objects it recognises.

Samsung unveils an 8K QLED TV you'll actually be able to buy

Engadget

Back at CES, Samsung gave us a glimpse at the Q9S 8K TV, which notably used artificial intelligence to upscale content to 8K. That was cool, but it was just a concept. During its IFA presentation today, the company unveiled its first 8K QLED TV that'll actually be available for purchase: The Q900FN. It loses the easel-like design of the concept for a more traditional stand, but it packs in many of the same features, including a real 8K resolution and AI upscaling. Samsung claims the set will also feature a 4,000 nit peak brightness, as well as support for the HDR10 standard, which can optimize content on the fly. On top of those innovations, you'll also find most of Samsung's current QLED features, like the ability to automatically recognize connected devices; a single optical cable connection that handles power and video inputs; and ambient mode, which lets it blend into your wall, as well as display things like news, photos and the weather.

Bonjour Bixby: Samsung unveils its own AI aide to debut on the Galaxy S8

PCWorld

Ahead of next week's announcement of the Galaxy S8, Samsung has introduced the world to Bixby, its own entry into the increasingly crowded AI landscape. Samsung is a bit late to the AI race led by Alexa, Siri, and Google Assistant, but it has a bit of a different strategy. Instead of wowing us with encyclopedic knowledge, Samsung is putting Bixby at the center of the Galaxy experience. It's calling it an intelligent interface, rather than an assistant, and it will work across the phone and any "Bixby-enabled" apps to reduce the number of taps we need to make. Rather than adding summoning functionality into the home button, Samsung has built a dedicated button on the side of the S8 (seen in the picture above) to "make it feel easier and more comfortable to give commands."
